Advantages and disadvantages of having a large pimple under my left eyebrow rather than elsewhere: Although it's huge it's essentially invisible, but it hurts to make facial expressions.

Fitness guru people (usually self-appointed, often on messageboards) are fond of saying you shouldn't count housework as exercise, but clearly these people don't live in a house with three flights of stairs and spend all day carrying misplaced things from floor to floor, along with a 20-lb kit. Glrrrrrrrrr.

Ciro had extra pancetta available a few weeks ago and realized he could carbonara things that aren't pasta, so I have been eating eggs-and-bacon oatmeal with some regularity.

Postscript: I did a bit of rudimentary research on the origins of Pasta alla Carbonara, and it seems like maybe it showed up in the aftermath of WWII, when American troops brought a lot of bacon and eggs into Rome. So in the same way Spaghetti with Meatballs or Fettucine Alfredo are Italian-American, Carbonara might be thought of as American-Italian.

Cold days like this, I love being in my attic office, with its electronics and humidifier.

Sushi

Arielle and I shared bad grocery store sushi - fake crab, fake wasabi, fake salmon roe.

Turkeys

Apr. 22nd, 2012 01:01 am
rinue: (Aperture)
The feral turkeys tend to appear in the yard in the early afternoon; I will look up from my breakfast or crossword to find a long-necked, long-legged, three-foot-tall brown bird peering through the kitchen window to see what I'm up to.

Maker

Apr. 8th, 2012 02:43 pm
rinue: (Woooooooo)
Ciro got a pasta maker for Easter, toothy and slick and metallic red.

IKEA

To convince myself to put up with going to IKEA, I have to bribe myself with the promise of imported foods.

Quality

Ciro and I were talking about our respective relationships with Ed and Val, and it occurred to me that the quality that makes a best friend is that they assume you know what you're talking about and work forward from there instead of questioning your data.

Catch

Saw John Carter in a mostly empty theater, and then tried to catch up on sleep but didn't really.

Kaiten

Mar. 17th, 2012 06:56 pm
rinue: (Default)
Have pushed aside both Sundowning and The Hacker Noir to work on the Kaiten Project again, thanks to Ciro finding a long-shot possibility that it could get produced by someone looking for a weird script.

Orange

I wore orange from my eyelids to my calves; outside, it was gray.

Limbo

Discussed the narrative structure of Limbo as it relates to the Book of Exodus.

Bloodshot

rinue: (inception train)
Thankfully, my eyes feel less bloodshot than they look.

Tooth

Mar. 8th, 2012 02:04 am
rinue: (Default)
Ciro had another wisdom tooth extracted, one so deeply crevassed it looks like a full set of teeth in miniature, waiting to bite him beside his computer.

Alamo

Ate Texas-style burgers* for fall-of-the-Alamo day, then Oreo cookies for Oreo's 100th anniversary.

* with mustard and onions, and usually pickles. You can have other stuff, and can maybe lose the onions, but the mustard is requisite. Or you are not Texan. It's the law. It is the pickled beet.**

** in Australia, they use pickled beets. Also eggs. Aaaaaand spicy mustard. Because Australia is SuperTexas.

Accepted

James got accepted to the New School and will be moving to New York in the fall!

Desk

Mar. 2nd, 2012 01:46 am
rinue: (Default)
Spent all day at my captioning desk, accompanied by lip balm, hand balm, two pairs of scissors, lavender pastilles, needle and green thread, blue loose button, four-sided die, red bead, artificial pearl, tiny screw, pinky ring, a purple beaded shrimp, and a clay animal Ciro made in kindergarden.

Snow

Mar. 1st, 2012 01:48 am
rinue: (Fox)
Snow fell after months of premature spring.

Shower

Feb. 29th, 2012 02:38 am
rinue: (Default)
Got out of the newly refinished shower, all hand-glazed tile and carefully-matched grout, and into clothes that don't quite fit, makeup that doesn't quite work, and hair a month past needing cut.
