Have pushed aside both Sundowning and The Hacker Noir to work on the Kaiten Project again, thanks to Ciro finding a long-shot possibility that it could get produced by someone looking for a weird script.
I don't know whether you know about this one, because I don't remember whether I ever wrote about it here; it's something I was mostly working on in the UK. It's about Japanese suicide submarines during WWII. Basically torpedoes that were less effective because you took out some of the explosives and put a living guy in there instead, who was honored and genuinely believed this was going to win the war and salvage everyone's honor. Weird ghost-in-the-machine stuff. I don't think I can ever write it as weird as it is in reality.
Thanks, now I have another odd, Japanese war... thing... to bring up in conversation. This gets to hang out with the same trivia package that hold tsujigiri and the hagakure's endorsement of homosexuality. (Not to equate homosexuality with murder, but rather to illustrate Japan's incredible moral flexibility over the years.)
Also, if you have not read it yet, I must recommend "Tokyo Vice." It's a fascinating crime/ journalism story. Also, it's probably true.
