I gave Gentleman Basil a haircut and made pesto (in a pestle, damnit) with too many walnuts. I have discovered that I can buy walnut pieces very cheaply (they're in the baking aisle), which is wonderful because I love nuts but am often priced out of the market.

I am wearing a cute dress and I made cornbread, so I am pretty much the definition of irresistible. (There was also okra, beans, and chocolate milk.) I am even now hatching plans for guacamole.

I have gotten many compliments on my haircut, which is not a haircut but several months of growing out a shaved head. It looks like a 70's spin on early Beatles, and I think it might accidentally start a mini-trend. It looks deliberate enough that I have confused myself while looking in a mirror, forgotten that it is not a haircut, and nearly called Scarlett* to compliment her.

I have now put most but not all of the things I took out of the closet back into the closet in a different order. I am not sure it is a better use of space, but it's slightly more aesthetic (while remaining fairly ugly). Rug making stuff is still all over the floor, which Ciro generously points out is the right place for a rug -- and after all, aren't the pieces of a rug also a rug? (Answer: only as much as an egg is cake.) Good old Ciro.

Life would be pretty amazing if the hundred degree wet heat hadn't led to a major bug outbreak throughout Dallas. There are roaches and wasps everywhere. Unrelatedly, every Tuesday at 5pm there is a wreck on I-75 at Lovers which backs up traffic. It's not a difficult intersection. It's not even an intersection. It's a pretty straight piece of road. But a lot of assholes live in that area, and they get on the road there and crash then. Every damn Tuesday. Ciro points out that when a penguin is being an asshole, all the other penguins peck it until it stops or dies. We need a mechanism for this on highways. Cattle prods, perhaps. Or flocks of penguins.
