Two days back, and everything's sorted and ensconced, I'm safely in bed, the film is chugging along, and I want to go home. It is a struggle to wake up. It is a struggle to get dressed. It is difficult to write anything. I am missing half my mind. Everything seems pointless. Twelve weeks is too long a time.

Seeing Red

This is caused by hereditary abnormalities in color sensitive pigments of the retinal cones in the back of the eyes, which are actually part of the brain. Our laboratory found that one-half of males with normal color vision had the amino acid alanine in their red pigment, while the other half all carried the amino acid serine, at the same site. This finding means that the same exact red color is perceived as a different type of red, depending on a person’s genetic makeup."

Apr. 29th, 2008 11:38 pmToday, I woke up really late because my alarm clock didn't go off. I actually woke up at the right time and thought "no, damnit, close your eyes and stay asleep until the alarm goes off so that you don't get jetlag." I wound up staying in bed an extra hour and a half, resolutely not getting up, until someone texted me.
Otherwise, the day's main action was a trek to the National Theatre's costume warehouse with my producer and production designer, to decide on military uniforms. The UN does not have a standard one, as it turns out. I hate being able to do whatever I want.
After that, I had to work way too hard to download winzip, and I still haven't sent out look samples to the crew, which makes me feel terrible, both because I haven't done it yet and because I still have to. Also, Ciro already knows this stuff and in fact found the look samples (and took a few of them), and why is he not here? I hate directing films without him. Hate hate hate. Working on them, okay. Directing, hate. And I am once again not going to be with him for his birthday or our anniversary, which was also true the last time I directed.
On the other hand, I have a geeky crush on Robert Cornelius. He may be dead, but he was fucking sexy.
