It seems to me that the defining physical characteristic of a Frenchman is his neck. Something about the language brooks incredible development of the muscles around the trachea until they're pronounced like marble sculptures. This I think is what makes the guillotine such a brutal work of art; it both seperates the head from the body - reason from heart - and at the same time destroys the neck, thus devastating the marker of a uniquely French physique.

You're brilliant and marvelous and I wish I could see the ring. I have internet now, though I don't know for how long. I'm online today, at least. I'm crying, too. It's probably silly, but I love you so much, and I'm so happy for you, and I wish I could be there so badly.
