Ciro's Covid Birthday
May. 28th, 2020 09:54 pmThe name Ciro is derived from Cyrus, which in turn may come from an old Persian word for sun. This is debated. But when I need to use a symbol to represent Ciro, I usually use a sun glyph that looks a lot like a 2-D drawing of a coronavirus, hence the name coronavirus.
Anyway, Ciro's is not the first birthday in the household during lockdown. Dad's was in April, and was originally going to be celebrated in California. But that would have been unusual, and a dinner at home for Dad's birthday is normal. In contrast, for Ciro's birthday, Chad is always there. Even when we were in Italy, Chad made it there. It is basically a solemn vow.
This year, I warned Chad before things shut down not to buy a ticket or to make sure to get travel insurance on it. And unfortunately, I was correct.
It's weird not to have him here. We're going to try to get together virtually on Saturday to watch a horror movie, since Chad and Ciro would usually be doing a week-long marathon of that. We ordered in from our favorite restaurant, A Tavola, which has a couple of people still in the kitchen although it is closed. We called and said send us whatever you feel like making today, enough for 6 people. They made pasta and meatballs and antipasti and burrata and a big rucola salad and crusty bread.
