I am also breaking up with the internet for a period following completion (tomorrow) of Indiegogo.
Everything I see/read/hear makes me angry. Mostly radical leftie political stuff where I'm like since when did we get as myopic as radical rightwing pols? UGH. Example: Raven-Symone backlash. Everything she said in that interview used to be the point to people like me, but now I am supposed to be mad at her for rejecting labels. Since when did lefties decide labels are good just because they are automatically applied to people IDK ever since the internet trolled me for racism because I said I was and should be colorblind and that I have an experience with black culture that no one can take away from me, I've found it harder and harder to deal with it. Also this is not what you posted about but I needed to say it to not-facebook. So yeah. Me and the internet: dunzo for a few weeks as of 48 hours from now.
My internet feeds are at this point carefully enough cultivated that I rarely run into total nonsense. It's effort, though. For instance, my non-scientific poll of overhearing an NPR segment this morning crossed with in-person complaints about other people's compaints by some Dallas friends suggests there's a lot of panic about Ebola to which I have thankfully not been subjected. And I can't say "hey, thanks everybody" without immediately inviting a lot of "OMG ebola" or ebola keywording spam, so I don't.
(NPR segment was people who have little to no chance of contracting Ebola complaining that they "don't feel comfortable" with how it's being handled, without for instance knowing how it's being handled. Because obviously in a democracy we should put our resources toward serving the needs of the majority [people who are never, ever going to get within 200 miles of Ebola, ever in a million years] instead of the minority [people who have Ebola who are selfishly taking up all the resources that could be spent comforting the rest of us with pointless security theater].)
Since like you knoww 90 percent of my clientele at the gym is preteens with instagram, all I've heard about for weeks is OMG ebola and I have told more than one 12 year old girl to her face she is an idiot.
