Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).

In the interest of not thinking about this way too much (and excluding my own films) . . .

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, George Roy Hill & William Goldman 1969
Tron, Steven Lisberger 1982
The Dreamers, Bernardo Bertolucci & Gilbert Adair 2003
Animal Crackers, the Marx Bros. 1930
Blade Runner, Ridley Scott & Hampton Fancher 1982
Time Bandits, Terry Gilliam 1981
Inception, Christopher Nolan 2010
Tank Girl, Rachel Talalay 1995

Three Musketeers/Four Musketeers, Richard Lester 1973-1974 (This is one movie in the same way Kill Bill is one movie. The actors were mad it was released as two films when they were paid for one film.)

The Kingdom, Von Trier 1994-1997 (I'm counting it. Because it's a tv series but only ran in cinemas in the US.)

Worth consideration: Yellow Submarine, Watership Down, Fantastic Mr. Fox. Yet what would get knocked off the list?

Neverending Story comes immediately to mind.

And The Muppet Movie.

Those were both on my shadow list, but I felt you could plausibly infer those parts of my personality from a combination of the other films on the list.

Also on the shadow list, for instance: State and Main and Sneakers are very me, but the ways they are me are well represented in Inception, which also tells you something about my marriage (an aspect absent from the other two).

The Almost Famous parts of me I thought were kind of encompassed by The Three Musketeers, which also has slapstick.

Damn I should have thought of Almost Famous, but you're right about The Three Musketeers on that point so it's moot.

I could have probably filled half the list with Terry Gilliam movies. He is definitely the director of inside my head. It was kind of strange for me to realize other people didn't see things that way? Because I mean there are these movies, so clearly this is mainstream thinking.
