The Winchester Star* is full of action this week! Not only did a bike get stolen which was left unlocked; not only did a woman get bitten by a dog that definitely had all its shots; not only did someone go through a car looking for spare change, not only did teenagers try to hide that they had a small amount of marijuana, not only were there threats of violence on facebook, not only did police chase a felon through the woods, not only did a man buzzsaw someone else's construction materials out of malice, not only did someone threaten somebody else with an air rifle (not realizing the threatened person was somebody's grandkid), but to top it off, somebody stole a tree from someone's yard, and the neighbors heard nothing.

* My local weekly newspaper, which aside from the venerable crime blotter lets you know what building permits everyone has taken out for their houses, and then has pages of fluff about which high school student won what, what times various book groups are meeting, and opinion pieces of varying quality. Notably, last week, there was a poll on whether you own a gun or not and two people answered no opinion. Amazing. Amazing. Amazing that this was an option; amazing that anyone picked it.

I have never got over the joy that came from this headline in the North Devon Journal over a decade ago: Tools Stolen From Unlocked Garden Shed. I'm also fond of stories regarding cars being keyed or wallets being returned intact. The other day, I stood in a charity shop for ten minutes eavesdropping on three old ladies discussing how the weather had 'turned out nice' for the recent royal visit (but apparently the local examples of barnyard animals were 'a bit smelly').

Just adorable. It's one of the reasons I love living right next to Corrales - where we would live if we could afford it (and where C's father & stepmother are now thinking of moving - ye heavens - and getting horses - we would die from the excitement). That wonderful educated-yet-small-town vibe. Ideally closely located to a metropolis. Not that ABQ quite qualifies, but, you know. It tries.

In other news: maternity clothes suck.

Re: In other news

This is not news. It is an ancient oppressive regime and could use a good revolution.
