Sick. Have been good for nothing except sleeping and watching unchallenging television. Ciro made me pepper tea, but has mostly been caught up in dealing with the unjust detainment of a family member who happens to be a black teenager who happens to have been followed home by a white cop wannabe for "looking like a thug," was attacked by the fake cop, and as a result was arrested by the real cops, because as we all know, physically and developmentally disabled gay allies spend their days looking for people to entrap in this way.

You've really got to be committed to old-boy racism to take that line on vigilantes in the current media environment, so hats off, McKinney. Way to stick to your non-rhetorical guns.

What can I do to help this? I've read your post, Ciro's post(your link), and Jesse's Reddit thread(Ciro's link). Which is the best to link to and cross post via, say, facebook?

Yeah, Ciro's post is pretty much the aggregator. In terms of actions, there's not a lot I know that can be done directly (other than family-level stuff like helping people move, making sure there are places to stay). I don't know whether eventually there will be a legal fund to chip into, because all of that's still being thought through.

For now, I think most of the hope is to attract media attention, which comes from visibility. Along those lines, there is a petition at change.org, although I suspect that's going to be more symbolic than anything.

I'll ask Ciro if there's anything big I missed or misrepresented.

I stage managed productions with Mitch Carr and BJ Austin some years ago. I'll see if they are still in the news business and would be willing to run a story on it. I doubt I can do anything with my Syfy or NBC contacts. It's not really in the nature of the relationship.

If you can email me some contact info for Bobbi Kerr, I'll see if my mom can store people or belongings at her house. They do know each other. (And Jesse is mom's square-dance partner.)

Don't know whether C has already e-mailed the contact info, but I wanted to say thanks for the offer. Also, he's updated his journal entry to include a form letter that can be sent to the Dallas Morning News.

I admit I am amused by the idea of SyFy blowing this wide open, and being like "this is why we changed our name, so we would be free to bring our audience this kind of hard-hitting journalism."

Yeah, there is a link to a change.org petition to sign, as well as a link to a site for donations to the legal fund.

I haven't put this on the site, but I'm wondering if it's not a good idea to have a link for people to send letters to the DMN asking them to cover it (there's a reporter already on it, but I think it might encourage them to keep at it or run it big if there are letters. . .)
