Yesterday was Valentine's Day, or as it's known around these parts, Heart-Shaped Meatloaf Day, the one day a year when we reliably eat meatloaf. (I don't know why we don't otherwise eat meatloaf. We all like meatloaf. But Mom reserves it for this special ceremonial occasion.) As per usual on a holiday, novelty socks were handed out; mine have unicorns, robots, and cupcakes. Mom also found some cheap drugstore valentine's cards that included temporary tattoos of bugs, so now I appear to have bugs all over, but don't.

Today, Ciro got a wisdom tooth pulled.

Over the weekend, I wrote most of three songs, edited together a director's reel for myself, and led a discussion of Inglorious Basterds, yet feel I did not get up to much besides playing Skyrim. (I also feel I could have played more Skyrim.) Probably because most of it is still in progress; the songs aren't finalized and definitely aren't recorded, and the reel will take a lot of rendering. (Since I'm cutting together footage from different projects, it's at different resolutions and frame rates, and we need to go back in and conform my work edit to the highest resolution footage we have of those clips, converted to a single framerate, and then we'll probably go through and do a quick color grade so the cuts don't jar, and then we have to run all the optical effects I might want to add (like titles and any fades), and then we have to output to a couple of different formats (so that it can be put online and on DVDs). Which is a certain amount of hands-on time and a lot of processing time. That's aside from a little bit of audio cleanup and editing.)

And then when it's finished, it's also not finished, because presumably after that I both start sending to agents, which is research, and also building a website. If anybody has any web-building software or web hosts they'd particularly recommend, or recommend against, please let me know. This is the kind of thing I'd hand off to somebody else, but I don't know anybody who is any good at it.

I don't even know anybody who claims they're good at it but are actually crap.

Or anybody who claims they're crap but at least own the software.

I thought everybody in my generation was supposed to be a web designer, but I think instead we mostly draw indie comics and don't show them to anyone.

Cath has actually taken up simple web design. It started for her church. She's not a designer, but uses software to design, and she might be able to help at the very least. I'll put her in contact.

Also, those socks sound fantastic.
