Zucchini blossoms are showing up at the farmer's market, which is exciting because I'd never eaten them and really enjoy eating flowers. Mom fried some, stuffed with ricotta and mushrooms, and she, Ciro, and I have been browsing cookbooks together to see if there's anything else we want to try next week. (Assuming more blossoms show up. Between Mom and Ciro, we have shelves and shelves of cookbooks.) Mom also pulled out the Salvador Dali cookbook, although it has no squash blossom recipes and in fact she has never made a single Dali recipe in over 35 years of ownership. But we read to each other from the cookbook and are amused.

It is well worth planting a squash of sorts for the blossoms alone, I think. In my experience, squash look like they'll never grow for a month, and then almost double their size every two-three days for a month, and then just slowly take over the garden. Squash blossoms are so plentiful they are overwhelming. The only problem is squash bugs - which never come until the second or third year you're in the same location, so if you rotate the location from one side of your home to the other, it's fine. :)
