For Good or for Best

rinueGot a good amount done today. Sent many submissions to publications unlikely to accept them but which I like enough to try anyway. There are an awful lot of editors I don't submit to who write lofty and borderline offensive "send me only your best! Your sentences should make me weep! Your plots should change my life!" badly-written calls to arms and then publish the most pedestrian crap.
Otherwise, worked on Digby for several hours, worked on stuff for Rex, talked music video with C. Blacker, and set up Secret Videoediting Project which will hopefully turn out to be unnecessary. Ciro meanwhile gathered legal papers for the LLC. We ate fajitas, played Rock Band, and discussed whether it would be wise to hardware hack the XBOX to get around the deliberately (greedily) gimped functionality. I stayed in pajamas all day, as I am not feeling terribly well. After steady practice each day for the past week, I am on the verge of being able to actually play one of the pieces I wrote for guitar; I am forever writing things beyond my limited skill level but within my technical grasp. Perhaps in another week, I'll feel up to recording demos of some of it.
Pippen the cat has been sneezing blood, and it's either a relatively minor infection or something very serious like a tumor. The vet has given her an antibiotic shot, and hopefully it will clear everything up, because a number of us will be sad otherwise. Although Pip and I have a long and established mutual enmity, she's actually been friendly to me for the last month, and even enjoys being groomed against her will. It's a bit depressing to see something so fierce and sharp-clawed have trouble making it up the stairs with an arthritic hip, and at the same time inspiring to see the unexpected grace with which she has accepted aging and become a lap kitty instead of striking out or making messes, the way she still takes the stairs, albeit with pauses, and with nobody's help, thank you, because she's not after all that friendly.
