Oh Bing Crosby

It snowed today in Dallas, maybe more than it has ever snowed on a day in Dallas and certainly more than it has snowed in Dallas in my lifetime. When I was three, it snowed maybe a quarter inch that stuck and my cousin Scarlett and I assembled all of the snow in my yard into a snowpile maybe half a foot high and then stuck a carrot in it, and I think that was the only snowman I ever made until I was in college. There was a small snow when I was in high school, and I was conveniently sleeping over at my friend Thomas's such that we could have a snowball fight. Snow in Dallas is once-or-twice-a-lifetime remarkable.
I'm inappropriately blase about it, maybe because I just spent the holidays snowed up in Boston, because the UK was covered in frost, because DC was closed for days, and because I spend hours a day newscasting all the snow and closures all over the US. I have to remind myself it's exciting. Ciro gets off school tomorrow, which is exciting. My work was nice enough to rent a bunch of hotel rooms next door so that if we got stranded we would have someplace to go. I'm good to drive - I'm Northern enough for that - but it's terribly kind of them, and they let me off early just in case.
