I have never been sure whether I fall into the hipster category, mainly because every definition I've seen rests on the idea that these are people we don't like. On the one hand, I'm an urban bisexual filmmaker who wants to own farm animals and launch a clothing line. On the other hand, I have never worn skinny jeans and tend to have more than surface knowledge of the subjects I talk about. I suppose my main opinion on the matter is that I don't like people who have an imbalance of irony - too much or too little, and you are not for me.

For me, "hipster" died a long time ago. Ever since "nu-rave" gained wide acceptance as a legitimate movement/aesthetic/genre, they're all just "scenesters" to me.

You and Ciro? Artists. The end.

I would like to buy from your fashion line. I have faith in your garments being heavy-chest-friendly.

hipsters are people who are really hung up on how cool they think others think they are. so most of the people who get sort of casually described as hipsters are actually just cool kids who sort of don't know how cool they are, and most of the people who think they are hip(sters) are just douche bags because it is impossible to self-assign the label hipster.

because in being truly cool or hip there has to be an unawareness of it. now, i'll still call somebody a hipster as a convenient short hand for hippie, vegan, moped riding, skinny jeans wearing, sunglasses-at-night-with-a-fedora-and-cowboy-boots kind of person, but they're not really hipster at all ...
