Must Remember to Use Sunblock on My Neck for a While

Have chopped off more than a foot of hair - was three inches short of waist length, and is now somewhere between Agyness Deyn and River Phoenix as Indiana Jones. This was not out of a particular desire to donate it, although it is being donated, or because it was starting to get in my way, although I was pinned down by it more times than I ever needed to be. I got tired of people saying "your hair is so long!" Other people in my life have only known me as long haired, and have therefore thought of me as a long-haired person, with attendant long-haired person traits, even though I always thought of my long hair as a pretty and somewhat novel costume.

Lots of random men weighed in over the years on how much better I look with long hair than in my driver's license photo, which annoyed me also.

In any case, I look forward to returning to an era when people look at my face rather than my body, and actually listen to me when I speak. My hair length should have no effect on this, and yet. . .

Since I started growing it out at the same time I applied to grad school, and I have now finished my coursework, it has a nice sort of formalism to it. It makes it seem very symbolic, even though we all know it just means I have the time and access necessary to maintain a short cut again.

Maybe its because I met you when you donned a shorter coif, but I favor the short on you. You've got a long, strong neck and great slope to your shoulders; it suits you!

Well, you know, coming from you it was always a special case, because I felt like you were coming from the same space I was: look at this beautiful alien thing that Romie has adopted. Also, your love for long is well known, and for me to not allow it would be perverse on the order of asking me to pretend I don't enjoy playing games.
