Days like this, I wish someone would shoot me in the head. I very happily knocked out a biblical horror story today because I was pretty sure there was a market for it, but when I reread what I'd written, I discovered, as usual:

1. It is flash fiction.
2. It is beyond question literature.

What does a girl have to do to sell out around here? This is actually worse than the time my quick money erotica story turned into a cyberpunk think piece.

this is why i am going to go live in the woods

Pitch it to Ira Glass? Somehow? Or some sort of read-things-aloud venue that can help you sell out, with money? I think the radio (radio shows like that at least) should like flash fiction because they have to fill in a crazy hour-long puzzle of a show with pieces. And if they say no because it is literary you can mock them. As sellouts. You may be trying to sell out, but they never have to know.
You already know how to do these things; therefore I feel awkward. But hey! No one should be left alone to suffer with stories that have gone rogue like that.

Actually, this is much more helpful than Ciro's "I'm sure Zoetrope will be interested." Because although he is right, their acceptance rate is incredibly low and they take forever to get back to you. This American Life is a brilliant idea, and I suspect it is much easier to kidnap Ira Glass than Francis Ford Coppola.

True! And you could probably ransom him for sound equipment.

I'm sure they have a submissions process.

Actually, they are really cool about accepting unsolicited stuff. They even have what is effectively a hotline, where just anyone can e-mail and say "hey, I was thinking about doing a story about this, what do you think?" And if they like it, they mail you some sound equipment so it can get recorded.
