slow fumbling

I am depressed today, although I found curtain rods and hung curtains and hung out with friends and ate excellent food and made fast money and was given beetle-wing earrings. My sadness is not localized, although bits of it are to do with not treating Ciro well and other bits are to do with Iceland, which is one of my favorite countries and which is having a rough go of things. I have managed to add 153 words to the novel in the past few days; even considering my executive decision to extend November through 17 December, this cannot be thought of as auspicious progress.

Do you read the Icelandic Weather Report? I'm not sure if it would make you feel better or worse if you don't, so it's not an unreserved recommendation exactly, but the writer behind it writes in a way that is...angry and involved without being cynical, for lack of a better way to describe it, and just the way she presents it as a bad but not impossible situation is a little reassuring.

I do in fact read it, although not regularly - I kind of do it in spurts. Sigga and Birgitta (my Icelandic friends) turned me on to it. You are right though that it will probably be okay, and will in fact make it easier for me to visit and do things like Icelandic airways (the exchange rate was prohibitive the past few years), but I don't like to see their pride shaken, because they are the best country, and I hope they don't feel like the rest of the world looks down at them when we still love them.
