My sense of day-of-the-week is tremendously out of whack, thanks to filming through last weekend, having Thursday off, and editing through this weekend. I keep thinking it's Friday.

My edit is going well; it took me about three hours to get from raw footage to first cut [a fine cut, but not necessarily a final cut]. The film as it stands is a little under three minutes, which is about what I was predicting. It's not brilliant - it's unquestionably a student film - but it's competent. It's what I expected to see based on what we shot. At the end-of-term screenings, it'll probably fall near the middle of the pack. Maybe the bottom of the top third if the sound and music are good. I'm satisfied. On the other hand, I'm not happy with my DP work on Birgitta's film. I'm also annoyed with Soho Images (the lab) again because they messed up my film again - it's all dirty and scratched, and they cropped the frame when they did the telecine [transferred it from film to tape].

I miss Ciro. This is relevant because the film is about us, and will be shown on our anniversary. It is also the first film I have directed at the school, which made his absence from the crew conspicuous. My DP and my camera op did good work, but...I miss Ciro. I envy every person who speaks to him - the people he nods hello to when walking to work, and the drugstore clerk who hands him change. I am jealous of anyone who makes him laugh, recommends a movie, or looks over his shoulder while he does a crossword.

On Thursday, Birgitta [my producer; also the person I eat lunch with, gripe to, and hatch plans with. She often feeds me and lets me do laundry at her apartment] took me to see Trabant, a band which is very popular in Iceland and not terribly well known outside of it. Their live show is awesome, and the bassist is very sexy.

I still don't feel like trying to make a coherent narrative of the shoots, so all I will say for now is this: on Carolyn's film, I have my first credit as a stunt-double. That is so much cooler than anything else I could do ever.

I think I am coming down with a mild cold. The usual immune system dive immediately post-shoot or -show.
