One of the things that's saving my life is that Ciro has a webcam, so I can talk to him every night and look at him while I'm talking to him. He's on another continent, and I am talking to him as though he is in the room. He moves, and I can see it. He picks things up, and I see them too. I tell a joke and he laughs at it in real time.

Obviously, this is a phenonmenon I've been seeing all my life in live television broadcasts, but it's still amazing. Who would have believed such a thing is possible? If you'd asked the Victorians, you can bet that whoever accepted the premise of videoconferencing would also assume we could talk to the dead.
