Today's script panel1 went something like this:

/ROMIE stands up in front of the COURSE TUTOR and TWO INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS to talk about a script she has submitted for consideration. She opens her mouth./

FIRST INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL: Let me stop you there.

/Romie closes her mouth./

FIRST INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL: Let me say. Let me say that I love this script. This script is amazing. I love this script. Promise me this script will get made.

ROMIE: Yes. All right. Yes.

COURSE TUTOR: You have the rights, yes? Please tell me you have the rights.

ROMIE: The contract is in my bag. Should I -

FIRST INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL: Good for you. Good for all of us. OMG is this part of the Promiscuous Materials project?

SECOND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL: Lethem is the best. This script is the best. This is how scripts should go. It's charming, it's absurdist - you are a beacon to the world.

COURSE TUTOR: I love it also, even though I am taciturn and it is my job to laugh at you. I admit I am at loose ends.

ROMIE: Should I just sit down?

FIRST INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL: Oh please attempt to sell it to us so we can talk about it for a while, even though we were unable to contain our delight in advance.

SECOND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL: Incidentally, I directed several episodes of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys as well as quite a few feature films, but it is for my work on Hercules that you are a fan. I am not saying this during the pitch session, but am acting as your internal monologue.

/FIN/

What's amazing is that this is not an exaggeration - it just went on for longer. I'm still kind of having trouble believing it happened. It goes without saying that my script has been greenlit - first place out of 15 submissions. I'm making a movie.2

My life's about to get real focused for a while.

1. To decide what films to make in the 5th term, the school convenes a panel of outsiders who read our scripts, and then listen to us pitch them. (A pitch is basically your sales schpiel - "this is what my film is about and why it's great.") They ask some questions, offer some criticisms, and then rank all the scripts.

2. Specifically, a 15-minute-or-less color 35mm film.

Congratulations! Make sure you get plenty of sandwiches/vitamins/tea! ...I have apparently somehow ended up with the impression that you aren't able to eat while you're filming! That's probably inaccurate! Sorry! Congratulations!
