I met up with Emily for drinks yesterday, and realized I have utterly failed to publicize a few matters of import (or, well, one of them is important and the other one is just cool).

1. At Christmas, I went to this party that was being held by one of my oldest friends, where she introduced me to this really amazing person named Elisa who I liked immediately. She's a fashion designer who went to my high school, although not at the same time I was there. And she'd been in London to try to start a t-shirt line, and I gathered through conversation that she'd been a contestant on Project Runway (which is a show I like, but I hadn't seen any of the current season). She gave me some pretty awesome clothes as a Christmas present, including this one elaborately wrapped shirt that I can wear in half a dozen configurations; she also told me the spiritual meaning and significance of the shirt I picked out, as though she was telling my fortune, and asked me to model for her sometime. So I own couture! Very exciting.

Then I got home and looked her up, and first of all realized that she was a performance artist and marionettist, and that in fact I'd heard of her. Also, she made some of the clothes that were used in Sex and the City. Also, she's a favorite of Vogue magazine, which considers her at the forefront of the American avant garde. Also, the reason her clothes seemed familiar to me is that she designed all of Jennifer Connelly's costumes in Requiem for a Dream.

I kind of had to run around screaming for a while. For although I am immune to most types of fame, there are artists about whom I get overwhelmingly fannish. I could probably be cool around David Bowie, and I love David Bowie. I could probably be cool around Thom Yorke. I have in the past been cool around people like Roald Dahl and Theodore Geisel. But if I ever met Darren Aronofsky, for instance, I would either faint or make a fool of myself. Next week I might get to meet Chan-Wook Park's producer, and I am sure to drool embarrassingly.

2. Ciro is back in school, which is astounding considering he's been trying for more than six years. And suddenly this time it worked, and they gave him a pell grant and everything. So although we're still planning for Italy in the long term, I'll be heading back to Dallas in July, and will use it as my base of operations for a couple more years.

The only reason I even watch Requiem (it is an awesome movie, but it hurts my head and heart) is because of her clothing. I remember when I wanted to be a costume designer I said that I wanted to be like her! That is soo awesome;) I squealed when Ciro told me. Also, incase I haven't made this clear to Ciro, I am so very proud of him and you for kicking some major ass and doing what it takes to make your dreams come true. It's not easy to go back to school after an absence but you both have done so beautifuly:)
