Romie Appreciation Day
Nov. 20th, 2007 11:07 pmI have no idea why, but all day people have been seeking me out to tell me how cool I am. Like teachers came and found me to say "hey I liked this bit of camerawork from weeks ago" or "your script is cool" or "that was a nice bit of sound design there." Or even just "hey, you're really a together person, and I'm proud of you." Students have been doing this too. "The lighting on those night shots works really well" and so forth. Even the guys in the cafeteria at my hostel were like "hey, we just wanted you to know that you're extremely beautiful, and the most interesting person to watch of anyone who comes in here. We have nothing in common from which to build a relationship; this is just a public service announcement. Also, please keep coming in here."
I'm making note of this because I know I tend to write here when I'm feeling misunderstood and underappreciated. And it's worth recording that sometimes I am in fact misunderstood and highly appreciated. Bravo!
In other news, Ciro has pointed me toward a BBC website which helps you learn enough of foriegn languages to get by as a tourist. So now I can spell my name in Italian, and order coffee, and inform people that I live in London. I can also tell them that I am an engineer, if I am willing to lie. It doesn't count if it's in a second language, right?
From tomorrow through Saturday, I'll be in Dublin, hanging out with my friend Jen, celebrating Thanksgiving, and likely drinking whiskey.
