I spent today in the sound department, which is the opposite end of the building from the editing department - down in a cool, dark, basement. I got to play around with a Nagra 5, and in the not-too-distant future will be wandering around town recording wild sound. I will also get to do foley work - rustling clothes, footsteps, sips of water. I am beside myself with excitement.

After class, I didn't really want to go home, but I didn't want to stick around school either - or to watch a film, or go to a museum. I thought about hanging out in the reading room at the Masonic Hall (hot chocolate!), but instead opted for a bench in the Africa section of the British Museum (hot dogs!). Or, well, I thought it was the Africa section; when I finished reading, I realized it was a cross-cultural exhibit on funeral customs and protection from evil spirits. There were some awesome Chilean masks, and a full-sized Japanese paper doppelganger from meant to be burnt to help a soul ascend to the next life.

Yesterday, I met with my composer and handed over my film to her; we'll be in contact over the next two weeks as she writes the fitted score. Her name is Charlotte Bray, and her website is here. I am very excited (she's great) and also terrified (I'm not used to using composers). I also found an excellent and cheap dim sum place called Golden Pagoda (Chinatown, Gerrard St. & Macclesfield. Does not inclued VAT in menu prices). I had dumplings, which makes me think of Val and Chad, and which was also exciting because it was food that had flavors in it.

Aside from that, I have had a detente with Kevin, the documentary teacher, and we may wind up getting along; I talked to a professional film editor on the bus who I just happened to run into and who thinks my feet are pretty; and I did my laundry, which took more than two hours to dry due to a combination of jeans and humidity.

Last night, I dreamed that my closet contained blue net bags of small rotting apples.
