Record found-coin haul yesterday - one pound and two pence - followed by today's respectable seven pence. England, I believe, has holes in its pockets.

The rushes have been delayed, as Soho Images (the lab) is in a tizzy over Harry Potter; pushed to the side, we get films processed days or weeks late, printed with the wrong printer lights, or worse, developed in the wrong negative bath. Everyone at school is torn between loathing the Harry Potter film for monopolizing the lab, and being really excited about it since when it's out, the lab will be done. In any case, I'm locked into a holding pattern, which isn't stressful for me, but is for the editors.

Having finally visited the John Soane Museum, I am more convinced than ever that I must mural the ceiling of my bedroom in Boston, even though this may make the ceiling seem lower.

I've started wearing scarves every day, initially as protection against the cold weather, but now partly because I find I enjoy wearing scarves every day. My body image is starting to realign; I'm starting to get used to what I look like now. I still don't know that I'd choose it, but I'm not as sure that I wouldn't.

The talk of Harry Potter made me miss Val and Patrick, and most of all to miss Val and Patrick from five years ago, when we were still indomitable. My hair is the same length and color it was then, before I cut and bleached it and set the new course. If after so many years and so many changes, my hair can go back to how it was, can I fold time in other ways? Can I erase the many breakings of the fellowship, even after years of us running scared in three different directions? Can I have my best friends back just by deciding I want to?

The astounding thing is, it seems to be that easy.

Soho images always do that. I'm convinced that it's a deliberate ploy to make film students suffer. Having looked around the labs at Soho I can tell you it look like chaos with huge dev tanks, small rooms with people printing etc. It's really cool but I can see why it's got a reputation for leaving the smaller jobs til later. A nice contact there is Len Thornton who never answers his emails and will only answer his mobile occasionaly. He is old school and really interesting to talk to unlike the 'Nathan Barley' types who hang around dispatch.
Hope the film goes well (when you get it that is)
