Have just talked to Ciro; he is safely in Boston and being fed and margaritaed by my parents. His theory is that this whole bit was a revenge for some UK passengers being stopped at JFK airport a few weeks back, as they kept trying to lecture him about racism in the US. It's also pretty clear that the immigration officer lied to at least one of us, and probably both of us, a couple of times - said opposite things.

Ciro has of course had an awful and exhausting day, which he has weathered admirably; that story is really his to tell, but know at least that he's not, for instance, rending clothes, weeping uncontrollably, prostrating himself on the floor, etc. No raging; just that kind of quiet, tired, oddly cheerful "oh, the universe." I doubt any plan will be worked out for a few days; we'll need time to think, and probe, and form opinions.

We're both fine.

Oh, England's been my least favorite country for a long time; it's why I get touchy when anyone implies I have an English accent. That said, Ciro was also searched three times coming back in to the States; I think they were trying to figure out what had the English worried, and had trouble finding anything because it made no sense. Charismatic ethnically-ambiguous single man travelling alone; but of course.

To the best of my knowlege, he has all his luggage. It'd be a good line here, if I could say "they're santimonious asses, not thieves" - but in England, the government is free to enter your house at any time and start stealing and selling your possessions to pay any taxes they decide you owe (and they are particularly fond of "forgetting" that people are students and thus don't owe the tax). This would all be less scary if they were not so prone to paperwork snafus; they've already tried to turn our gas off a couple of times due to problems with the account of someone who doesn't live here. Oh, the inefficiency of government ownership.

So the government own the gas companies? Thats news to me. Factually wrong on many counts but nonetheless amusing.

Hmmm - I'd been led to believe they did, but clearly the person I was talking to, though a native Brit, had no idea what he was talking about. Of course, he idolizes communism, so perhaps it was more wishful thinking on his part. LOL.

Something I'd like to thank you for, if I haven't already, is the fact that you tend to be very thorough in your answers and explanations; I always learn a lot when talking to you. I hope the students at your school appreciate it. You're a good guy to have around.

Hope work on the documentary is going well - I look forward to seeing it when it's finished (or even in a rough draft stage). Some really beautiful shots in there.

Cheers,
Romie

I have a strong desire to bite the English, chew them up, spit them out, and then clean my mouth out vigorously.

I think you understand.

Also, I would stomp on them.

See, I have no desire to stomp on them, because they seem icky, and kind of tapioca like. I certainly wouldn't deign to put them in my mouth - you don't know where they've been. Years after the industrial revolution, it's still a filthy town.

Perhaps I should build a giant robot mouth. I could toss the citizens of England onto a converyor belt, which would carry them past a number of furnaces before depositing them in the large, mechanical chomper of death.

My next level for Unreal is going to require a bone crunching sound. Perhaps I could get a good sample if I placed a microphone into the "Anglibliterator."

Oh, come now; this is not an issue of citizens! Let's keep ranting about a people, not people. I do like a great many people here, and many strangers have been very kind to me. Remember that bit in 7th Sea about how it wasn't until maybe WWI and the accompanying nationalism that people started taking against citizens for the actions of their countries? It's like that. I could rail against the English national character all the day long, just as I can rail against Americans; but if you start asking me to point to individuals, I have to note that they're all quite nice.

Oh, well, right - I was talking about the human beings, not mutated half-worm-half-bear attack lawyers assembled by underground criminal syndicates.
