A Good Day

I woke up today and felt energized and productive. This, I have found, is a delightful side effect to sleeping.

I decided to exploit this new resource by putting my hair in pigtails and going to the farmer's market -- probably my favorite place in the world. I can go there with ten bucks and return with a week's groceries and some pocket change, especially while I have this "glowing" thing going on. You meet people from all walks of life, and the air smells of freshness and vibrancy. Val says I just like exchanging paper for bags full of bright colors, and she's probably right.

Among other things, I bought some cactus because I'd never eaten it before, and came up with a new recipe (as yet unnamed):

Roll sliced cactus, pinapple, and trout in sesame seed; stir fry with carmelized onions. Flavor with a sesame ginger sauce. Serve over a bed of leaf spinach; eat with a dry white wine.

On the way home, two people pulled their cars up alongside mine to ask where I was from. (The glowing again.) Admittedly, I live in Texas but drive a car with Massachusetts plates, so this sort of inquiry is justifyable. Nonetheless it has never happened before.

I lazed about the house for a while, working on various bits of writing, although I took a short break to jog over Norma's Diner for a slice of pie. (Using that pocket change I mentioned.) I was followed by an entourage of dragonflies and four enamored kids. On the way, I passed a young girl in purple and braids, doing hand jives with the air and singing to the wall (which echoed back).

Finally, I got around to sorting and shelving Uncle Rex's movies by category. Here are some examples of the divisions I used (I made labels with some masking tape):

- Disturbing; lots of bullets (Resevoir Dogs, Goodfellas, a lot of stuff by the Farrelly Bros, etc.)
- Overought Period Piece (Jane Eyre, Barry Lyndon, etc.)
- Guy is angsty but noble and misjudged (Five Easy Pieces, A Few Good Men, etc.)
- Emotional manipulation (pretty much anything by Speilberg, Stepmom, etc.)
- Faux history (the rest of the stuff by Speilburg, Bridge Over the River Quai, etc.)
- Lots of action, a little justification (Indiana Jones, Lethal Weapon, etc.)
- Eye candy (Gods and Monsters, Brazil, etc.)
- People fall in love but refuse to admit it until the end of the movie (aka Date Movies, aka Chick Flicks -- Moonstruck, Officer and a Gentleman, etc.)

And then I plotted with Dee about how to overthrow certain opressive regimes.

Damn I'm helpful.
