One is relief that you were there, but also frustration and anger that Val was threatened by someone like that. I feel that anyone who would so much as speak harshly to Val much less threaten her outright is someone that I do not want breathing the same air as I do.
Tell her from me that she is in my thoughts as are my hopes that August is a kinder month for her. I absolutely hate that this happened to her. (or to you!)
