Over on twitter, I've muted tweets that use the phrase "doesn't add up" because I think there's a bot net which has that as an input right now. It's showing up a lot in junk comments all of a sudden. Could be nothing but made my pattern recognition twitch. It feels like a Russian disinformation campaign. All the comments are from different accounts which present as being American, reply to something that mentions rubber bullets, and claim that the police would never target an innocent person. It's ham-handed.

It tires me out that this shit is so obvious, and I mean obvious in a way that doesn't make me suspicious of everyone. Obvious like "that's a person and that is three racoons in a trench coat." Obvious like scam robocalls. Obvious like ads telling me I can lose 50 pounds by taking the right vitamin. It confuses me that I sometimes see this stuff work on people, and I don't mean my friends who have cognitive problems (age related, brain damage related, medication related), who are understandably more vulnerable to bad information getting past overtaxed filters.

It tires me out that it is so obvious but is still allowed to operate, and it tires me out every time I discover someone is less clever than I thought. My dream is that I will be the least clever person in a given situation. What is really exhausting is me being egotistical and thinking words are very important, and that people pay close attention to sentences and who says them and whether the ideas they express fit together with reality, and being a bit crushed when I notice a lot of people don't, really.

That is a very good epitome of a lot of things lately.

That's one of the most galling things. They're so obvious. They suck at this.

My shrink, who spent some time in the Soviet Union for funsies??? and knows a lot of Russian folks talks about how the difference between propaganda here and there is there, no one believes it (now as well as pre-1991). Like the whole idea of Pravda is a sick joke. It's cynical but it's the obvious survival adaptation. Whereas here, people swallow whatever they're told.
