Perhaps to make up for the relative dullness of life at The Wall, I find myself increasingly drawn to the Jon Snow Smoulder. He was never that pretty in the books. Also, there should be a drinking game called Dire Wolf Bingo, since they pop up so haphazardly, and look rather cross-eyed and inbred when they do.
I never really saw much in Cat in the books, which is why your post made me realize that - although I quite like the actor playing her, despite her rather manner reading of lines - all her big A-HA! moments have been dumbed down. CSI Winterfell, indeed. "Oh, but Ned, Littlefinger was like an incestuous younger brother to me, and now he's risen to the position of incredible wealth and influence of course we can trust him."
I also have high hopes for Sansa, though. And Dany, when she's allowed to be badass. (That crown of gold can't come fast enough.) I wish it had been an internal journey for both of them though, and not some character development forced on them by outside (male) factors. And now I have pretty much reiterated your entire post ;)
