Jul. 24th, 2019 05:38 pmThere was a twitter meme going around yesterday of people posting what their Manic Panic color was in the 90s and I didn't answer because I used Punky Colour (a superior product) and because I used all of them. I changed my hair color every couple of months. I have done all of the colors. I run into a similar barrier when people ask me what my favorite color is more generally, or my favorite food, favorite style of music, etc. etc.
I do have some kinds of favorites, but they're not identity-linked. They're good tools. For instance, I thought Punky Colour was better quality hairdye than Manic Panic (too runny, and not enough pigment). Bic Crystal works more reliably than Papermate. POH makes high quality monofilament unwaxed dental floss. And so on.
I don't know whether my lack of favorites is linked to my bisexuality (notably a monogamous bisexuality) but I know it angers and frightens the same people who are threatened by bisexuality. For practical reasons, I will sometimes go ahead and say a favorite, but not if I'm going to have to keep track of it and have somebody aha me when I say Indian food one time and Tex-Mex another time.
Anyway it made me wonder while I was brushing my teeth if that means my thematically consistent superpower would be shapeshifting, since I like having a large canvas for expression and also enjoy novelty and sensory variety. But it seems like mutable characters are typically portrayed as being either uncomfortable or dishonest, which I am not. So maybe instead I would be intangible, who you can't strike or hold down to a thing, who can mingle.
