Back from a week and a half in New Mexico, which was mostly spent working or trying to stay out of the way of other people's work, but did mean I got to see several people I like quite a lot. We also hiked in the tent rocks, which Ciro has not stopped talking about, and ambled around in Santa Fe. Ciro got what I would characterize as a short-brim Panama hat (always a tricky designation; someone will show up to tell you it's actually a trilby or actually a porkpie, and someone is always willing to insist any brimmed hat at all is a fedora). I picked up a new ring, which brings me back up to seven worn daily. (I find rings so much easier worn profligately.) Val and Acevedo were supernaturally attentive hosts despite half of their house being absent or occupied by plumbers, and the other half being roamed by an even-more-neurotic-than-usual Pomeranian.

Now Chad is visiting us in Boston. I also continue Romie's adventures with gum disease, where everyone at the periodontist's is apologetic for the fact that they have to do anything at all when obviously I pay excellent attention to my teeth and just happen to be colonized by uncommonly aggressive bacteria, and I try to help them come to terms with it. It is a good thing I like dentists and don't mind people poking around in my moth; I actually napped through most of this one. I keep hearing that eventually the gums situation will resolve and I won't have to keep this up, but I expect to need to continue it indefinitely, and to eventually get more tissue grafts. It is wonderful to live in a time where these services are available; I don't mind it at all, not in the way I would mind the historical approach of having to put up with it and lose my teeth. Back again in a month for more dental agita.
