For Valentine's Day, Mom made heart-shaped meatloaf as usual (this is a tradition) and got me a four-foot-tall orchid which I will very likely fail to keep alive but which for the time being is a dramatic addition to the room. Ciro made me a very good card which has a drawing of a lunging fox and says "I eat your heart." It is highly successful.
Sent off a query to Small Beer Press, who turn out to be in Massachusetts (but the other side of the state). Long odds, considering they publish very little and very selectively, but they are editors whose opinion matters to me. It's always tougher to play to crowds in whom you have a personal investment.
Generally feeling very rejected. Happened to get three rejections this week, although the stories were sent out months apart. Meanwhile, feeling un-hopeful about both the feature and the C. Blacker music video, despite nothing really changing about the situation with either of them. Forging ahead, forging ahead. Playing and singing very well, but to some extent this does not matter, since auditions keep being rescheduled or cancelled.
On the other hand, might show some short films in Jamaica Plain next week, and will possibly appear on local access television soonish, as there is starting to be significant interest in my screenings/class/discussion group which is expanding beyond the members of the church, despite the fact that I have not held even one session yet, thanks to weather. I am clearly aided by my own reluctant mystique.
The boiler is being replaced, so water, heat, and hot water have been in and out all day, sometimes minute to minute. Ciro and Dad are both referring to the new boiler as "the warp core" and the boiler room has therefore been upgraded to "the engine room."
Wore my new pink leopard print galoshes today and stomped over several snowbanks with impunity.
