The Ultimate Crimefighting Team
Mar. 4th, 2010 06:14 pmThe studio where I spend the large part of my workday is cold enough that it's pretty uncomfortable even when I'm wearing two sweaters and a scarf; I normally wrap myself in a blanket and am still uncomfortably cool. (The building has been retrofitted a lot of times and is not a space that would be easy to climate control anyway; it has to be this cold in my studio to prevent it being 90 degrees in another part of the building. This is the best balance they could find.)
However, today, for the first time in months, I am not cold, and do you know why? It is because I read a lot of industry and academic data on temperature regulation, and the consensus seemed to be that if I could keep my feet and my palms warm, my body would assume that the rest of it was also fine. And I thought, "well, my friend Des made me some awfully fine trigger gloves that are stylish and rugged while allowing full range of motion and exposure of the fine sensors that reside in my fingertips." I tell you it is like some kind of magical armor, which Des said it would be, and I only thought Des was speaking fancifully. And this is exactly how things always go in these stories, where you are looking for the magical sword of legend and it turns out to be the crummy sword your father gave you ages ago.
In conclusion, the world has once again been saved by love and science, the ultimate crimefighting team.
