C is for Cookie; That's Good Enough for Me

10 THINGS I LIKE THAT START WITH "C"
1. [You know this one.]
2. Close friends, such as Chad, who is a Competitive Chess player, and Chris Blacker, who is a Composer (and won an ASCAP award last year - go Chris Blacker). Conspicuously missing from this list: Christopher Guest, aka Baron Haden-Guest, who for some reason has never decided that we need to hang out all the time.
3. Chamomile tea. Val and I sometimes call it "Tisane of Mantanilla," because it sounds fancier. Since Val is sensitive to caffeine and I am sensitive to decaf, Chamomile is our go-to jointly-drunk hot beverage, with peppermint running a close second. Other hot beverages I like: Coffee, Chai tea, and Cocoa.
4. Centipede. No matter how much I love Minesweeper, Bejeweled, X-Wing, Puzzle Fighter, Grim Fandango, or Final Fantasy X, I will always love this game more. It is widely regarded as one of the best games ever designed (it and Tetris tend to fight for the top spot), and features prominently in game design and game history textbooks. Ciro wishes he'd written "Paint it Black." I wish I'd designed Centipede.
5. Curry. Whether it's Indian or Thai, a curry comb or people currying favor with me, you can bet I like it.
6. Cardboard. What a packing material! Light, strong, cheap, and biodegradable. Before cardboard, the world was a lot more inconvenient.
7. Capital letters. Why do we have upper case and lower case? Plenty of non-Latinate alphabets get by without them. But because capital letters exist, I can easily indicate proper nouns and the beginnings of sentences, and I have an extra level of design available when creating layouts. I have devoted many hours to the creation of illuminated letters. Almost all of them were capitals. (Typographic Honorable Mentions: the comma and the colon.)
8. Cuddling. (This is really a stand in for a large group of more explicit words that start with c. I'm kind of blown away as I realize how many there are - I never thought of c as a terribly sexy letter. Unless it has a cedilla - that screams sex appeal.)
9. Codes and Ciphers. While I'm at it, let's throw Crossword puzzles and Case-sensitive passwords into this Category.
10. Canon, both musical and piratical. The reason "Castles" is not on my list is that I can take over any castle I like, so long as I have a good canon along.
As an added bonus, here is a list of 11 things starting with C that I am ambivalent about. Do I love them? Do I hate them? Do I not care one way or the other? I certainly couldn't tell you.
Clocks, Cannibals, Current events, Cursors, Cursing, Carbon dating, Cigarettes, Camping, California, Custard, Codas.
