with intensity

I ramped into high productivity mode for about a week because I knew I had sequential houseguests coming and I needed to get things done before they arrived on the assumption I wouldn't have time while they're here, so I did a ton of Strange Horizons behind-the-scenes editorial work, painted the unfinished bathroom (which required finishing it), put in overtime at my day job to compensate for upcoming "I have guests" spendyness, did a lot of laundry/gardening/etc, and finished a screenplay which has a grant deadline coming up. Plus attended various social obligation events (which isn't to say they weren't fun, just that they weren't optional without damaging my close relationships).

As a result, I am on schedule and can theoretically relax and have fun now. But I'm having trouble ramping down, because I like getting things done. This is a problem because "I am getting shit done" is a mode that stresses out houseguests.

There is so much other stuff I could be getting done, though. Everybody would like that it was done. Yet nobody wants to see the sausage get made. (Making sausage is fortunately not one of the things I feel compelled to get done.)

I am trying to funnel this productivity need into playing Pandemic at a high level of intensity.

Oh, I hear you. Productivity mode is a definite mode and it's not easy to downshift.
