poor little island

In my attempt to come up with a title for the now-finished novel, I have accidentally written a poem simply because of how I grouped a few of the options:

Lonely Island
Gathered Here Today
Above an Empty Ocean

*
*

Poor little island.

(Incidentally, I don't think any of these are great titles for the book, and in fact the current front-runner, also not great, is A Long Summer Waiting for Fall.)

ETA: I think I'm going with The Sifting Floor for now.

I'd be bothered by "Lonely Island" basically just because of the rap group of the same name. Also, "A Long Summer Waiting for Fall" is incidentally kinda freaky to me because I as a writer immediately think "why isn't it 'waiting for the fall'???" Where's the "the"???!!! This is hardly helpful, but I don't know that I'd be the most helpful person in title selection since I suck at it.

I hesitate to point out that "waiting for fall" is a perfectly acceptable and normal construction, much like "waiting for winter" or "waiting for spring." Waiting for The Fall pretty much assumes that at some point summer plans to get kicked out of the garden of Eden, thus losing its state of innocence.

Oh no. I know it's an acceptable construction. I was saying that given that I know it's a horror novel my brain went "but they're going to fall! It's a double meaning! Why is she being coy? Is she trying to trick me?"

It was an irrational reaction, I know, since that's not what you were going for.

Kudos on the now finished novel. Hope to read it in the near future.

Then is is probably best that I clarify that it takes place in a house very similar to your house and has dogs very similar to your dogs, and is set in Maryland during the summer because I came up with the idea at your birthday party. For the same reasons, the male lead joins a theater group at one point. However, I want to emphasize that the couple which it is about, who horrible things happen to, as it is a horror novel, are NOT based on you and L, and any similarities not listed above are purely coincidental. This will probably be obvious when you read the book, but it's worth saying straight out just in case.

I'm honored that you came up with the idea under my roof. Look forward to reading it.
