i highly recommend ditching jewel cases and clamshells for cd's and dvd's in favor of binders except in the case of special edition dvd's or cd's and when liner notes are particularly useful, though in both of those cases if the liner booklet is substantial enough to be worth having, it can sort of generally be integrated as a book/leaflet on a bookshelf w/o absconding with too much space.

i highly recommend a system like megan's where new pages can easily be acquired/inserted into binders to create more space and to limit the amount of needless shuffling when new cd's or dvd's are acquired. this would free up some room in your apartment for books.
