Elegy for an Ice Cube
It is said that a home appliance divided against itself cannot stand. So it is with my warring freezer, which appears to have a basic identity conflict between its tasks: freeze or defrost? There is a constant cycle of making ice and then melting it away. From day to day, I cannot guess what lopsided sculptures will reside in my ice tray, beyond that they will be smaller than the day before. I am left with the feeling that my freezer's artistic ice cube creations are an elaborate cry for help, but I have no aid to offer. This is not a battle that can be won.
